I'm in the process of changing out the front dash speakers on a 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (Sedan).  I have tried a pair of Pioneer TS-A878 3 1/2 inch speakers but the magnet is to big at the bottom, 2.7.  It will not fit down into the hole as the vent (molded plastic) is right there and it will not allow the speaker to go all of the way down into the hole.  The current speakers (original) have a square or rectangle magnet on the bottom so it does slip right on past the vent.  Does anyone know where I can locate a new set of3 1/2" speakers to handle my new CD player and radio Panasonic CQ-DF402U wil 4 channels of 23 watts RMS for the front of the Cutlass?

HELP.

Excalibur, Audiovox, and others manufacturer some smaller 3 1/2'' OEM replacement speakers that will fit without any modification but you can use a heat gun to stetch/shape part of the plastic air duct or cut away part of it and seal it with duct tape to allow the larger 3 1/2''s to fit.

look on crutchfield's web site, they should only show you stuff that has a small enough magnet

I know the kenwood dualmags have tiny arse magnets but I don't know if they make a 3.5" version of them--I've only seen 5.25s and 6.5s

nevermind I'm an idiot--didn't bother to check their site myself before I replied.  Turns out that's the model they suggest as well.  Might wanna try emailing their sales people and see what they have to suggest.

Check Parts Express www.partsexpress.com.  They sell a large variety of OEM drivers and may indeed have the ones you need.
