I just upgraded my standard deck and speakers (to a sony xplod) and have got some wierd problems. Firstly my dash lights don't work any more.... any suggestions?. The wierdest problem is I can't listen to FM radio any more. I had my deck in for a few weeks before I upgraded the speakers and FM was working fine. After I changed the speakers over the deck cuts out and resets itself everytime I have it on FM. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of car is it? Sounds like you blew a fuse for the dash lights during your install, and if there is an amplified antenna (like the FUBU antennas in old Porsches) you may have blown that fuse as well. That would make your radio reception very bad, if you get anything at all. Can you listen to AM?

Try disconnecting the dimmer/illumination wire to the headunit. I've heard of that wire causing problems with the dash lights before.

Its a 93 Lancer coupe. I checked all the fuses and everything seems fine (which fuse is for the dash lights anyway??) AM worked fine, i've disconected and reconected everything and FM seems to work now, must have just been one of those wierd things. The dimmer/illumination wire isn't connected, is there any chance this needs to be connected to something? doesn't seem to make sense, but......

Unless your head unit has a dimmer/illumination function or option, and you want to use that option, you don't need to hook up this wire for the head unit to function properly.
