2020 Nissan Sentra S, Upgrade Stereo To 2021 Headunit

Here's my challenge: I bought my daughter a 2020 Sentra S that does not have CarPlay installed. I went on eBay and bought a replacement stereo from a 2021 Sentra SR, and thought it would be a simple plug-and-play, but no. Although both stereos use the same 20 pin and 40 pin harnesses, the wires are configured differently. Does anyone know where I can find the pinouts for each of these model stereos so I can swap the wires around to make the new unit work? The old stereo has a 7" screen and is part number 28021-6LB0A and the new one has an 8" screen part number 2591A-6LW0A. I have photos of the wire harnesses if needed.jrw

Well, after much research and patience, I was able to figure this out on my own. I will pull all the information together and post it here in a few days. I had to completely re-wire the 40 pin harness, and man what a pain that was. But it is up and working 100% and my daughter is thrilled to have CarPlay now. Saty tuned for details.jrw

It all starts by finding the pinouts for the respective radios, and both configurations can be found in the same manual here: https://cardiagn.com/2020-nissan-sentra-b18-manual-audio-visual-navigation-system/ The original 7" screen radio pinout starts on page 30 The new 8" screen pinout starts on page 132 The pinout numbering looks like this (view looking at the back of the radio) The goal is to make these wire harnesses from the 7" screen radio Look like these from the 8" screen radio I put together a handy conversion table to see what goes where I started by putting small lables on each wire and numbered them to their original location (in case things went wrong, I could always revert back), then painstakingly pulled the wires from their respective harness locations. Pulling those wires from the harness was by far the most difficult part. Then, using the conversion chart, I pushed the wires into their new locations. Two wires (#8 and #17) had to be pulled from the 20 pin harness, and relocated to the 40 pin harness to locations #40 and #60 respectively. Only one wire #29 (camera detect ground) from the original harness configuration had no where to go in the new configuration, so I taped it off and left it out. I also had to add a ground wire to the 20 pin harness at location #20. I plugged the new stereo in, and everything works perfectly! Mission accomplished!jrw
