I hooked up my 10W7 and it sound like the volume is really low no matter how lound i turn my stereo up. I unplug the 10W7 and plug in my old sub.. it works fine.. I know it is not my amp but how do I know if my 10W7 is toasted or not? How do I check it? Can it be repair??? Thank you so much

with the w7 series they require a lot of space and do not work well with sealed boxes. try making a port in the box and see what happens. if the box is too small and sealed you will not get the ample volume. (experience.) even jl does not recomend a sealed box those speakers love air and when you give it to them they will make you love them.,

Need a little more info. The 10W7 is a 3ohm SVC. If you're trying to bridge it to a 2-channel amp, you could be shutting the amp down with a bridged 3ohm load. What amp are you using and what was the other sub you referenced?

Just take it back to the shop and make them deal with it... If you F**k with it you chance not having any warrantee at all.

The shop made me a custom box for the 10W7 along with JL 500/1 amp. It is just weird the 10W7 got sound but it is very very low unless i put my ear right next to it. I then hook up my old sub and it worked just fine and loud. I am guessing it is the 10W7 either blown or the wire is lose in the sub?? I would love to go back to the shop but it is 2 1/2 hours drive.

Well if you don't want to void your warrentee you don't have much of a choice. I suggest ringing them up and telling them about the problem. No doubt there solution will be bring it back into us. But yeap sound like either loose connections or screwed sub. Can you get your hands on another amp to test it though.

take a multi meter and set it on ohms and determine what the ohm rating is if your dont get an ohm rating something is wrong. that sub is i think three ohms or one ohm cause each coil is in parrallel to one connector. take the speaker out of the box and test the four wires on the sub there is two poss and two negative wires on each connector on the back of speaker test each wire to see what the ohm rating is i belive they are three ohms each but the way jl sets them up it turns them into 1 ohm load.

You might be able to go to any authorize dealer of JL and have them to look at the sub. Some dealers will gladly help you because they feel if they treat you right you will come back because of there service.
