2002 Ram xm install

I have everything ready to install, but I need to know the easiest place to access power for the Sony unit.  I only have a CD player, so I am using an RF modulator.  I hate those messy cassette adapters anyway.  I think that is all I need.  I can put the modulator behind the glove box and access the antenna behind the right kickpanel.  One other question-- will I get a good signal if I mount the antenna on the dash between the defrost vents, or does it have to be mounted outside?

For best results you really should mount the antenna on the outside of the vehicle.  Sometimes in certain vehicles it can be mounted inside with good results, but other times you'll hardly get a signal at all with it placed inside.

You should be able to tap into the factory radio's harness to make your connections.  The Pink wire with a black stripe is +12 volts constant, the Red wire with a white stripe is +12 volts switched, and the black wire is ground.  Make sure you double-check all these first with a DMM before making the connections though, cuz a lot of times it will vary from vehicle to vehicle even if it's the same model year.

Also I think this vehicle uses the new funky Chrysler antenna plugs.  If that's the case, to do an FM modulator you'll need the regular antenna adapter ( Motorola M to OEM antenna F) and reverse antenna adapter ( OEM radio to Motorola Antenna F).
