Hello all:

I am in th eprocess of FINALLY upgrading my stereo and speakersd from stock.  I was wondering if anyone has a stereo wiring diagram, or circuit diagram for a 2001 Jeep Cherokee limited (without the BOSE package).

I think any cherokee diagram from 1997 on should be ok, but the above is the year and model that I have.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jack

The premium sound system that is (I believe) standard on the limited edition Grand Cherokee is the Infinity sound system.  However, most of the time aftermarket components can be swapped in as if it were a normal stereo system.  Thus to do an aftermarket stereo you'll just need the  Metra 70-1817 wiring harness and the Metra 99-6503 dash kit.

Some of the speakers that come as part of the factory infinity systems have built in crossovers that complicate aftermarket replacement, but I'm pretty sure your particular vehicle/system does not have these.  I think the infinity speakers in your jeep are just regular 4 ohm speakers so you can replace them with aftermarket ones without any problems.  I don't think there are speaker harnesses so you'll just have to use a multimeter to verify polarity.  With the stereo turned on, touch the red test lead to one speaker wire and the black test lead to its corresponding wire;  if you get positive voltage then the wire touching the red test lead is the positive speaker wire.  If you get negative voltage, the wire touching the black test lead is the positive speaker wire.

Or if you're lucky the infinity speakers might already have their terminals labeled with the positive and negative, and if that's the case just note which wire goes to which one, and make the connections to your aftermarket speakers accordingly.

Here's the info we have here on the12volt.com for the 2000 Grand Cherokee--I imagine it's gonna be the same as your 2001;  but still I highly recommend you use a wiring harness if your original plugs are still intact.
