I have searched everywhere I can think of for an answer, but haven't been able to find one yet. Hopefully someone here can help.

I have a 2003 Accord Coupe LX. I want to install an aftermarket headunit. My problem is that the only installation kits I can find require me to keep the existing factory headunit with the aftermarket unit mounting below the HVAC controls where the CD pocket storage compartment is located.

This is done because on the Accord EX models (and LX-V6 I believe) some of the HVAC controls are embedded in the factory headunit. On my LX model, I don't have these controls and have no reason to retain the factory headunit. It would be a waste of space for me to install an aftermarket headunit below an unused factory headunit.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a kit that would allow me to remove the factory headunit and install an aftermarket headunit in that same location.

This may be hard to understand if you haven't seen the setup on the 2003 Accord, so I'll try to get a digital camera and post some pictures.

Thanks

As far as I understand it there is no kit yet available for the new accords.  However I haven't seen one that didn't have the controls embeded into the radio.  I might take a year before they get a kit out for both versions of the accord, more than likely for the HVAC integrated radio, it will be similar to the one for the ford tauras, etc.  Also if you are looking for information on removing the factory radio, then email/ pm me and i'll try and get back to you.

You may have to keep the factory radio.  Honda for a while now has been intergrating multiple aspects of there cars into there radio.  Before you cut any wires remove your factory radio and try to operate every power option in your car.  In some models it has been discovered when the radio was removed the interior lights did not work or the factory alarm was disabled.
