Could I use a y-adapter to connect two amps (one for fronts, one for sub) to a hu that only has one output? If i do this wouldnt it mess up the sound since the hu would be trying to send the same signal to both the sub and speakers...or should the crossovers take care of all that?

My father wants to upgrade his sound system within a very TIGHT :( budget. This is what i got so far. CDT cambrias' for 109 at zeb, kenwood kdc-119 for 119 at zeb , two us acoustics usx2080 84$ each at zeb(one for fronts and one bridged for sub), Infinity ref 10 or 12 sub(99$ at zeb).

He wants a purely sq setup...hes an old fart:p

any other advice would be apreciated

You should have no problems with a " Y " adaptor for the two amps. THe only thing you will see if that your subs and the front speakers will fade together ad opposed to non fading preouts. Each amp will be crossed over individually so you do not need to worry about this either.

you'll need to use passive crossovers for high-pass on mids/highs, and low-pass for the subs. Or you can use an electronic crossover that will handle all of this. the Y-splitting, and crossover points/slope etc.

the Coustic XM-3 is a very good, affordable choice.

If ya need some deals, also check the used section here, and try places like store.returnbuy.com

They sell open-box stuff at about half of what it costs retail.

I paid about $150 total for my Infinity Reference 605CS and 652i compontnts combined there.

Crutchfield wanted $300 for the set
