Okay then. I just want someone to look at this and make sure I have everything good for optimal performance out of this combination. I also want to make sure this combo will leave the amp pushing a 4 ohm load. (I think it will, but not 100% sure.) And on a side note, yes I know that Sony is horrid, and I would much rather throw in an Alpine HU and change the amp to a JL 500/1+ and throw a 10w7 in there, but I simply don't have the money to upgrade right now, so I'm just trying to get the best performance out of the equipment I have. I have not purchased the wiring yet, nor the sub box ( I have a dual 10 box with 2 JL 10w6 and a dual 12 box with 2 Cerwin Vegas) but I want to save a little trunk space, and I dont have an amp big enough to really push either of those combos so... I am open to suggestions about wiring or the box. Here it is:

Your load resistance is completely dependant on the subwoofers. If I remember correctly, w6's only came in 6 ohm dual voice coil, which means that the sub can only present a 12 ohm or 3 ohm load. Seeing as your amp is 2 channels, you can only run it bridged to 4 ohm stereo, so the 3 ohm load will be too low.

If you use 2 of the w6's, the best you can get is a 6 ohm load. If you wanna use the 2 Cerwin Vega's, I hope they are either 2 ohm single voice coils or 4 ohm dual voice coils.

If you wire your sub for 12 ohms with that Rockford Fosgate amp then you will be severly underpowering that sub. I would highly reccomend getting a bigger amp or not connecting it at all. The only way to make it work is to connect each sub onto each of its channels so the amp would see a 3 ohm load on each channel(and you will still be severly underpowring those subs).

Run the sub in a parallel setting, most if not all 2 channel amplifiers will be stable enough to run a 3 ohm mono load. Make sure the gain on the amp is not set too high, nor any type of bass boost used.

Well, I looked up the manual for the speakers online and it says the only way to acheive a 4 ohm load is with 3 speakers in series. dangit. ;) Yep, 12 ohm speakers. Okkay then, someone throw me a good amp to put on this bad boy... I just want to run ONE of them, not both. I am getting rid of the other one. I might use the parallel 3 ohm load until I buy a new amp, but I think I might just wait... I havent bought the wiring yet, and I will probably need 4awg or 8awg wiring for the new amp... no sense in doing it twice. A good JL amp would be preferable. I have a little extra money to blow.

I would try a good but basic mono sub amp that is stable to 2 ohm mono, like the Rockford BD series of amps, or a Concept CA525M. If the sub is going into a ported enclosure have a look for an amp that has a subsonic filter built in. If my memory is right your 10" sub has a power handling of 400 watts rms @ 3ohm when parallel wired. Both of these amps will fill the needs for you and probably less than the JL Audio, it too is a nice amp but it's always nice to save some $. The $ you save can go towards that nice new Eclipse cd player.

Give that JL sub 300 watts and it will be happy. Use the Rockford Power 351M, which you can get pretty cheap on crutchfield right now.

Thanks for the help guys. I will most likely go with Fosgate amp, and try and get a new CD player. The speaker has 300w continuous RMS power handling @ 3 ohms wired parallel.

i would go with a 400S rockford amp. not only will it sound better, your amp wont be working as hard to put out the sub. plus you can bridge it and all. and the amp is cheap too for money wise!
