Dodge avenger 12 volt negative ground

I just installed a new cd deck in my 1998 dodge avenger and i noticed a burning resistor type smell comming from the console. So i took out my cd deck and investigated. I found out that it was a 12 volt negative ground box around the size of half a credit card. It would get hot and start to smell. It had 5 wires connected to it with a harness. Then later on when i went to go use my power locks on the car nothing happened. So i know that it has something to do with the 12 volt negative ground box. But i want to know if theres a way to hook up a cd deck and still have the power locks work. Please help in any way possible.

HMMMM....Weird! Obviously grounding head unit directly to chassis ground in kickpad is the better way to go. I'll check schematics and let you know what's goin' on. BTW, did you fix doorlocks? Prepare your future. It wasn't the lack of stones that killed the stone age.

well i have my deck all installed and everything, but i think that the 12 volt negative ground box i took out controlled the power locks. I need to find out how to keep that little box in there and still be able to use my cd player. Mabee a totaly different ground for my deck would work. I was thinking of using the cigarette lighter ground to use.

When you initially installed your radio, did you ground it?  Dodge doesn't have a ground wire in their wire harness.  It's usually a seperate wire or a thick wire braid that bolts on to the rear of the oem radio.Do it right the first time

Yea i hooked up my ground(negative) to the thick wire that was used on the existing car stereo(stock)
