ok, my friend has an Xtant6.1 amplifier (300x1 @ 4 ohms, 600x1 @2ohms) pushing an eclipse sw8102dvc in a vented enclosure.  she wants to get another eclipse sub. would the xtant amp still be able to power both of them? im not sure if it is 1ohm stable, i couldnt determine it from the owners manual, so im looking for wiring options using the same amplifier.

Xtant 6.1 is 2-ohm capable, I believe.  Certainly you can connect more than one sub to it.

It will not be stable to 1 ohm mono. Her best bet would be to series / parallel the sub s for a mono load of 4 ohms or bite the bullet and change to two of the new SW7104-T2 subs and the proper box.

well the amp has 2 speaker outputs, yet is mono. can you just hook one sub wired at 2 ohms up to each speaker output?  also, i cannot find any info on the subs you mentioned forbidden

An amp can have 2 speaker outputs and still be mono, the problem that she has is that her sub is either a 2 ohm or 8 ohm sub due to the dvc 4 ohm coils. 2 two ohm subs in parallel =  1ohm = smelly amplifier syndrome. 2 8 ohm subs in parallel = 4 ohm or half of the amps capabilities and the possibility of clipping (much more so) which in turn = smelly speaker syndrome.

The subs I just recommended are brand new. They are probably just coming out in the US market right now from authorized dealers. If you need more info I can dig it up.

yeah that would be nice, are they 2 ohm dual voice coil? 8 ohm? im thinking that she doesnt want to buy a new amp, but she does want the second 10". i would be building a medium-small sealed box for them as well.

These subs are dual 2 ohm coils for the models I posted about, rms power handling is 400 watts each, just about right for that amp if the gains are set properly and played safely. What else, how about aluminum cones and voice coil former, cast aluminum basket, they are a very similar sub to what she has now except with a radically redesigned basket to help dissipate heat.
