Actual RMS of cheaper amps

How can I find what the real power output of some cheap brands of amps is?  For example Pyle, LAnzar Vibe, Pyramid.  These all look like they come from the same assembly line,all advertise 600Wpeak, and are all 2 ohm stereo stable.  What is the real bridged output?  I'm guessing not more than 150-200 W max.  I'm curious cuz I have a few of them lying around and none of them can even budge an Apine Type R  12 I just got.  The sub is back in the box waiting for the new RF Punch amp it will be meeting in a few weeks.

They are off of the same line. all those brands are owend by pyramid. They are not that bad for the money. and they of corse don't hold a candle to Alpine. Use a ddm to get the A/C voltage from the speaker termanal. then square that number and divid that by the ohm load and that will give you the rms of that amp. use a cd with a good signal. My guess is they are about 150wrms per channel.Big Dave

Your new sub is not overly power-hungry...it's just true to its word.  It wants 300 watts RMS.  The Audiobahns didn't need the 300 watts, and wouldn't take much more if it were given them.  Best thing now, you know, is to upgrade the amp to the quality of the subwoofer.  Oh, I see you have one on the way.Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

My plan is to feed it 500 W from a new Fosgate Punch amp.  Their newly redesigned line is supposed to be awesome.  I've compared them to the new Alpine amps (my original choice), but the RFs deliver MUCH more true power at 4 ohms bridged, which is what I want to run it at.  My other option for an amp is something that puts out 500W or so at 1 ohm.  I'd rather have it at 4 ohm cuz of the difference in SQ.

You might want to also consider the fact that your audiobahn sub was in a PORTED box. when a sub is in a ported box it doesnt require as much power. As for the pyramid amps, i'm not sure about it or anything, but when it comes to those, i just cut whatever they claim for peak power, cut that in half, and that more around what ur looking at. I used to have a Pyramid Crystal series 1600 watt peak power connected to 2 Alpine type R's, in a perfectly build box and they hit really well. I switched over to a RF amp and i felt the difference. but yea, a 600 watt peak pyramid amp wont do sh*t for a type r. get one that says atleast 1000 watts peak. lol. PimpChi-what kind of bow are your R's in?  I'm staying away from cheap amps from now on, going Fosgate.  The Pyramids aren't worth the 70 bucks I paid for them!

Cheap amps can work just fine, the trick is to know what they are truly capable of. Rockford does indeed make some good amps, as do many other companies. Find the amp that suits the task, if it be a Rockford, then that's great.Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
