I have a Sony CD player and when I turn the volume up to more than quarter way, the system cuts out, can anyone tell me what the solution to this problem is?

Thanks, Marty.

Could you be a little more specific than "It cuts out"? I don't wanna sound condescending, but i dunno if you mean the sound cuts out, or the entire receiver/amp powers off. Also, is it at a specific volume level that this happens? Do you notice anything strange coming out of the speakers before it cuts out, or when you near this volume level? Thanks.

I have the same problem with mine.  It's been said in other posts that Sony HU's are prone to skip at different bass levels if your system hits hard enough.

Thanks for the advice guys, in answer to msmollel2001 who wants more details, here you go;  When I say cuts out, I mean that the whole system temporarily loses power and then starts again where it left off and it will go again unless I turn the volume down quickly enough, the problem do not happen if I turn the bass down as low as it will go, but the kind of music I listen to needs a lot of base.  So you think it may be a Sony problem?

Thanks again, Marty.

P.S.  I also notice that the lights dim on the stereo when the base notes hit!

Do you have amps? What kind of speakers?  Can you please list your whole system so we can try to diagnose what the problem might be? Also if you have subs how many ohms are you running them @

Another thing to check for is the face plate..... make sure that it's secure and if you move it around does it turn on/off like you said ??
