Here's my dilemma. I am running an alpine cda-7871 head unit , which has three rca outputs, bass engine, etc. I am running it to three MTX Thunder amplifiers. Sub amp is bridged 2 ohm to 4 Thunder 6000 15" 8 ohm subs. The other 2 amps are for front and rear speakers.  My question is, I am looking at getting an Alpine 3339 11 band EQ to add to my system. I am getting it at a real good price and it works great. But, do I even need it for my system w/ what I already have? Will it even make a noticable difference in either sound quality or spl? Thanx in advance for your answers. Mark

Yes it will still make a difference. Anytime that you can equalize your frequencies in your system..... it's an improvement. Get the EQ and you won't be sorry... jsut make sure you tune the system properly otherwise it may go against you in SQ and SPL.

Alpine EQ add on -- posted image. Thanx Jeff! I'm picking it up for $150 and it works perfect. I just wasn't sure if it would be worth it. Thanx again, Mark

Jeff, is signal-to-noise an issue with eq's?  I was learned that eq's add noise to be amplified.  Is that just a competition thing or has technology gotten better so that noise is no longer an issue, if it ever was an issue?  Thanks.

Noise is always an issue, but there are ways to reduce the noise and get a better quality signal. Always look at the S/N ratio and always use high quality RCA or balanced inputs if at all possible. If your in the market of signal precessors or EQ's try to find ones that have fiber optics connections or baclanced inputs.

Balanced inputs!  Thats right - geez quality costs.  If (when) something fails on my system, I think I'll try the newer Zapco stuff with the balanced inputs.  thanks again
