ok, ive installed my new rockford/head unit in my 1990 thunderbird. It works just fine but i had to run an extra cable from the headunit to the battery. I did this because without it the cd player wouldnt play long without the direct hook up. My question is, do i have any other options to power my headunit without runnin' it directly to the battery? Also, when i hook my amp up and run the wires to the headunit will that give it enough juice instead of the extra wire?

I'm not sure, but make sure you've got a fuse on that cable you've run from the battery less than 18" from the battery.  You can buy a small in-line fuse holder that would work at radioshack.  See here: http://www.bcae1.com/ for why a fuse is a good idea and what size to get.

Did you use a wiring harness for that car?  You shouldn't have to have a cable run to the battery for power.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
