sound deadening?

overall, what type of sound deadening material works best, and weight is not an issue

It depends. How much are you willing to spend on sound deadening? Dynamat is expensive, but works really good. But you could also use fatmat, which is alot cheaper and will do the same job.

check out B-Quiet or Fatmat. Their basically the same thing as Dynamat just not with the heafty price tag.

Use Dynamat original, then layer over it with Dynamat extreme, then layer over that with the 10"X10" Dynaxorb panels.  Strip the car and cover all the sheet metal.  And do the hoodliner kit too.  That will cost you an arm and a leg, and make your car too heavy to drive.  But it will be the best.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
