Ok well i got myself a set of Kicker CVR 10"s.  They are what I like to call revision A, because i cant seem to find them anymore, they dont have fire like logo, rather a plain "Kicker Comp VR" logo.  They are setup in a sealed dual enclosure ( separate spots though ).  The subs are powered by a Legacy Red Series 2 1000.2 Amp.  My HU, is a Kenwood 2025.  I also have a Legacy Crossover running in the mix.  My question is:  I have a mix of different songs and the ones that seem to bump the best are Marilyn Manson, esp. Resident Evil Theme.  While I also have crazy techno and some others.  I set the HU Bass to +0 and tried to adjust the bass on both the Amp and Crossover to make the bass in Blacked Eye Peas "Retarded", Aqua "Candyamn", and War "Lowrider"  none of them seem to pound as well as as MM's Resident Evil Theme.

The Crossover has Bass Boost at 45, 80, and 120.  The Low Pass has 50, 90, and 180 (Hz).  (linky:http://store.teptronics.com/lxr1.html)

The Amp has

  • 2 x 500 Watts Output
  • Remote Control Bass Boost (0-+1808 @ 60Hz) (dont use)
  • Fully Adjustable Electronic Crossover Network  (clueless on the settings)
  • 2 Ohm Stereo Stable Bridgeable Into 4 Ohms
  • The Subs are wired in series, i believe ( RED / Dot to Black, then BLACK/ Dot and Red to amp) (linky:http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/products/2002/206/x2063C10VR4-b.jpeg)

They are the dual 4 ohm voice coil.

SO what I need help with is, the best setup for that stuff, so that a vast array of music will bump!

Thanks a lot and if you need more info, just ask.

PS it's all in a 92' Festiva, so it doesnt take much to rock it =)

Off the top of my head, I'm going to say some of it is the source material. The MM track of which you speak was produced in such a way as to seem louder, lower, and harder than most other stuff. Lots of studio tricks on that song.
The second thing I think of is that the box those Kickers are in isn't optimised to the combination of woofers and your ride. The Festiva is a very small vehicle, and with the windows up it'll hve gobs and gobs of cabin gain. For a system with relative flat bass (and by that I mean a smooth, even response from thwack down to thud), I'd guess it'd be a smallish sealed box for each driver. If the boxes are heavily ported, over, or undersized, the response will be bumpy and peakey, and only tracks that have those frequencies will excite those peaks.
FWIW, War's Lowrider isn't all that low. Most of the energy is in the 50-100Hz range, and the main resonance of the average human chest cavity around 70Hz, so you don't want sub bass as much as you seem to want really loud bass.
The system setup will depend a lot on the speakers in the rest of your system, and how far down they can go before they need help from your subs. Off the top of my head, XO will likely be around 70Hz, and you may actually need to take bass out with the EQ to make all things pound equally.

Well, u confused me a little with the red dot and the black dot, but have u attempted switching them to parallel? also, u might consider a different amp, that amp is not going to give u the power it states it can, especially at 8 ohms. try wiring it in stereo at 2 ohms each channel or 4 ohms bridged. that might make a nice difference, if not, scrap the amp.

Well the box that the subs are in is just some generic universal that fits the trunk perfectly.

Are there any suggestions as to what the crossover should be?

Also your saying I should wire the subs the Parallel vs. Series?

As for the Amp, I know its not gonna push 500.2 and i expect that becuase the subs are only like RMS 300w, peak 600w.  I dont really want to go and get a new amp.

Also when wiring the subs, series or parellel,  they are wired individually to the amp right?  Im not supposed to wire from the terminals to the amp any special way.

    Thanks for the help.
