I finally got everything working in my car today buti was driving around and the bass kept cutting out on me then it would turn back on.  I looked at it when i got home and there was a red standby light on.  The instuctions said it was a protection for when the amp starts over heating or if the power is run bad, etc.  I felt the amp and it did seem rather hot.  The amp is in the left side of the trunk of my car between the wheel well and the back of the car.  its a 300watt jensen amp which I bridged to run 1 12" it was working fine in my friends car who has prectically the same setup but a different model amp but its still Jensen.  Do I need to cool it down some how or move the amp?  or is it something completely different?  If I do need to cool it how am I supposed to do that?

you problem is that you amp can not handel the imedance 4 ohm speaker . one speaker is usually not enough resistance t for most amp. now what you will have to do is take it off bridge or buy another sub and series bridge it. with two subs. now if you leave it connected than eventrully all that cutting off will mess up the amp.

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

  • Where did you ground the amp ?
  • How large of a ground wire did you use ?
  • Is the surface of the ground free from paint, dirt and is well secured ?
  • Make sure that when you attached the sub wires ( + and the - ) that there wasn't a strand or two that made it's way over to the next terminal.
  • Most amp can handle a 4 ohm brigded mono load... no problem. The Jensen should be able to handle a 2 ohm stereo load as well, but anything lower you will have to read the owner's manual for.
