I am a newb so this question might b gay in your point of view. I talked to a friend cuz i wanna get a Aiwa or Jensen head unit for my 96 grand caravan. I was wondering if any1 can tell me if they kno how much watts the stock speakers are. ( 5"or 4" dash mounted and rear 6x9) I dont wanna go all crazy after all it is just a van and i dont wanna destroy the stock Infinity speakers cuz thy sound nice. Might change the front, think i blew 1 of them. I was wondering what u think of Aiwa or jensen head units? If u can tell me if Sony Xplod is any good might get a used one from a friend. The reason i chose these two is because i can get the for under 50$ CAD. I think good price. And my friend said something about not amplifying ur speakers they dont sound good @ higher volumes and that they crackle. I really dont want to amplify the stock, if so id gett a brand new system. Thnx 4 any help watsoever and thnx 4 looking. Peace!96 Grand Caravan stereo -- posted image.

hmm , where to start.............ever heard the saying you get what you pay for? Those head units might have more functions or features than stock but the sound quality might not be much better. Its up to you and your preferences and budget. If I had to choose the lesser of the 3 evils(Aiwa,Jensen,Sony) I guess Id go with the one with the most bling bling. Amplify your speakers. Your not gonna hurt them unless you have too much distortion. Then again that comes back to , you get what you pay for. Have a clean , low distortion amp , your speakers will sound better, use a cheap, Wal-mart , Flea Market Amp , your speakers will sound like crap. Of coarse it helps to have a good , clean head unit so everything else down the line will sound better too. If your head unit puts out crap , all your gonna amplify is crap......get it? Save your money if you can and go with the better Brand name Gear. Youll be more happy in the long run.

The stock speakers are shot in a '96, and when new they couldn't handle much power.  Anyway it's hard to incorporate stock Infinity speakers with an aftermarket deck because of the proprietory nature of the OEM system.  You ought to think about finding speakers along with a head unit, and look for an amp, sub and all that on down the line.  None of those brands you mentioned gets anyone excited, sorry to say.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

I am not a fan of Infinity anyway but let me add this, it is just glorified OEM crap with an aftermarket name on it.  Take one of your speakers out and go to every Infinity dealer and the entry level cheapest speaker they carry on Infinity's line will sound 4 times better. Motor Co. version of a premium  sound system is just their way of trying to fool the consumer into believing that they have the cream of the crop..  On a lighter note I am in a market where alot of people are not willing to spend aolt of money so I can say that if you want to upgrade the most important piece of equipment is the head unit every respected car audio co. makes entry level decks with good quality sound it is just lacking the bells and whistle's so if you are not trying to spend major dough at least get a decent deck (Pioneer DEHP-3600 $179) and just work from their it will improve your sound quite a bit compared to factory..

I really dont want to amplify cuz  got the dough & i dont wanna fry the system (low budget im only sixteen). If anyhting im gonna change the fronts to something cheap like Jensen or anything i can find cheap. Im trying to get better fronts since evryone sits in the first 2 sets of seats and the rears are all bass so whatever.  Thnx!
