I have Never worked with anything from Planet Audio. A local shop has just recieved tons of thier amps and speakers. They gave me a catalog to look at. I was hoping someone here has had experience with the new stuff and could give me a heads up or heads down on them. The numbers in the catalog look ok as far as specs but the amps are priced kinda low which has me wondering. Any input would be appriciated. Thanks.

I would look at any Planet Audio amp.  Do they have any of these?  And what kinds of pricing did you see?

I havent been impressed yet,   besides ripping off the old stroker sub and making subs very similar to the power acoustik stuff..I have heard a few internals and not impressed, and the decks are too expensive for what you get

Yes Stevdart they indeed had all 4 of those amps and a few more. The most expensive one they had was the APD 1,250watt mono block for about $450. Is this fair or over rated as I suspect?

Normally priced, I think.  I think I'd look at HIfonics Brutus D amps if I were looking in that price range.

Hold out for DYohn's input, though.  He has extensive knowledge of those amps.  Mine is just bits 'n pieces.

Oh indeed I will. I always impressed my his amount of knowledge in this field. My Recording Engineer Instructor was a walking encyclopedia of acoustic knowledge as well.

You guys are too easily impressed.  I'm just a guy who's been around for a long time...

Planet Audio is still one of the best mid-level brands out there.  I still run a 10-year old Saturn amp in my personal car.  Jeff, they have nothing whatsoever to do with Power Acoustik - that's Soundstream.  Planet Audio was purchased by Stanton a few years ago, who also happen to own Cerwin Vega (which is why the FU and Vortex subs look like Strokers.)  Planet did not change their engineering or designer staff when they were purchased.  The main thing that changed is their amps are no longer hand-made in the USA, but are manufactured in (I believe) Korea.   For the money, Planet's Apocoplyse line of amps are very competitive, and their speakers and subs will out-perform most other lines at the same price-point.

Thank you Dyohn again for your input. I may look further into thier new line and might incorperate them more often.  You said however that the only change is that they are now made in Korea but Im looking at thier 04 catalog and every page reads "Hand Crafted in the USA" Of coarse that might mean that thier only assembled the the US but parts are made in Korea. I dont know but Im still impressed. I spoke again with the local shop and it turns out he has been authorized as a distributor of Planet Audio in the Houston Area and since Ive done quite a bit of business with him in the past , he would sell them to me at cost. Another Excellent reason to give them another look. Thanks again everyone for your response !
