If I have a 18db/oct 2way electronic crossover and I want it to filter my subs at 80hz. What would I set the low pass frequency to? Someone told me you would have to set the frequency higher depending on the db/oct of the crossover to get the actual frequency you want. Thanks.

Set it to 80 Hz.  The crossover will begin cutting the energy at that frequency.  At 80 Hz the level will be the same as the input and one octave above the setting (160 Hz) the sound will be attenuated by 18db in your case.
