i was browsing madisound in between classes, and ran into these subs. never checked out there products before because until i hear something about company, i usually wont bother looking at it. anyways, i like their specs. but they are overpriced as all hell. has anyone listened to theses subs? am also curious about the shallow 8" and the almost full ranges. am thinking about builing a 1 driver per speaker pair. and am torn between a full range or a coax. then am throwing 2 8's in the wall with the box behind them. dont like the sound of ibs with larger drivers.

The problem with an 8" full range speaker in car audio is it's off axis response won't be very good due to beaming. Unless you can mount them on-axis, I wouldn't recommend it.

What makes you think they're overpriced? Aura Systems loudspeakers sound really nice, very neutral (some say toward the warm side) and their accuracy is excellent. Aura is very much worth the price if you know what you're doing. Indeed, there are many higher priced drivers out there. The AuraTone line has been a staple in professional recording studios for more years than I've been around...

I've used their cinema, home and pro sound drivers many times and always with great results. I have never used their automotive systems, but I assume they will perform on a par with their other drivers.

I recomend a coax as a point source main driver over a so-called full-range. Aura makes some nice ones. Check out Tannoy as well.

dyohn, I just had not heard them and there specs and response were good but not stupendous so it seemed possible. thats why i asked how they sounded. those thin 8" drivers, have you heard them dyohn? they would be perfect for my wall as i only have about 4 inches before the insulation. not much room to work with for a box and it will have to go out to the sides. small apartments suck.

Oh, you are doing this in your apartment. I didn't catch that.

If the 8's are for subwoofer duties, then I think they would work just fine as well.

BTW, if you want a small full range speaker for an apartment, then check these out: http://www.creativesound.ca/details.php?model=WR125S I have a set in .25 cubic foot ported enclosures and they sound great. If you don't want to build it for yourself, here's a great enclosure for them: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=302-700 They are good down to about 70 Hz with that design. I also have one of their Clarus subs for the low end and it works great in my tiny apartment.
