grounding directly to batt?

i ended up changing the ground from my deck directly to the batt. it made a very noticeable sound difference. is it a bad idea to do the same with my amps? its a single cab truck so it is only about 5 or 6 feet between the back wall where the amps are mounted and the batt. i dont understand why it is a rule of thumb to keep the grounding cables short when you are going further through the frame and back up to the batt. makes more sense to run the cable directly for almost no resistance.

Grounding length does not matter, resistance matters. Generally speaking the shorter the run, the less the resistance, but on some vehicles, like chevs for example, the battery is about the best ground point your gonna find. You can try it out and its not gonna hurt anything. If it improves great, if it stays the same, o well, and it it gets worse for somereason then undo it. Pretty simple. 5 feet is the length from my batt to my distro block. the ground's distro block is right next to it both on the left side of the back wall. the amps go from the highs the closest, mids the middle, and sub about 4 feet from the distro block. its a dodge ram, do youy think it will make a diff. the undercarriage is starting to really rust this winter and ive been able to hear a difference already. i live in vt. in the winter we get to watch our trucks rust out, then in the summer we get to clip, strip, bondo, sand, and paint

sorry, mud season. didnt notice your from canada. at least most of your roads are paved:) can you recommend a good inet site to buy truck batt. terminals. i need at least one 4 guage, preferably a 2 or smaller for upgrade purposes. and a couple of 8 gauges for the deck, and rest of truck electronics.
