Will a small dent in the housing of a 1 farad capacitor affect its performance?

I'm not an expert but I beleave that there are many layers of foil inside the cap. a dent in the case would mean a dent in the foil. I don't know what size dent you have but I would think that a dent much bigger than a quarter would have some effect. I won't tell you to hook it up and give it a try but I probly would. But then again I aint too bright. You definatly do not want that thing to vent but I think they only do that when polarity is reversed. I would imagine that would make a mess and be dangerous.

hook it up to a friend's system and see how it runs monitoring everything with a dmm. tell him that you are just trying to show him how much better his system will run with a cap. better yet, just give someone the cap and not waste your time seeing if it still work. definately dont buy a new one unless you have an adequate system and you get a half farad cap with money you have no use for

No, it won't help it work any better than if it didn't have the dent in it. (HA HA) Seriously though, they are useless in most cases, or in my experiences they have never helped.

I wondered what a "stereo capacitor" was.  I imagined a 2-channel cap with red and orange chrome flames on it from our friends at Audiobahn.  Maybe with spinners.
