I have installed a Sony cdx l450 into my almera and i have no 12v constant, think there may be an inline fuse somewhere but havent located yet. To get round power problem have used 12v switched and now have power to head unit. However i have no illumination on the front panel. Have seen on this website the illumination wire is not important so assume it must be the fact that i havent got the 12v constant wired up. Any help would be great. Thanks

Go to the ignition switch for a 12 volt wire.

You should have seen the inline fuse when you installed it. It should be on the yellow wire unless UK is different. I think the illumination wire is orange on aftermarket stereos.

Does the radio have an orange wire? I know american aftermarket versions illumination is orange if I recall correctly. Perhaps yours doesnt have it. If you do have it you can probably just put 12 volts to it. If you pull the radio out of the dash you should be able to see the yellow and red wires with fuses inline. How bout just using a wire harness for your vehicle and eliminate the guess work. I always take that option when available.

Oh ok I see what you're getting at. The 12 volt constant I really dont think will matter. Does it play sound? I think you may have a defective unit. Is it old? Did it work previously if you didnt just buy it? Anything else wrong now besides illumination?
