List Of Manufacturers?

Does anyone have a list of Car Audio manufacturers, kind of like who owns who?

That's a good list of links.  Here's a small listing of "who owns who" that is pretty up to date.  Pjay's site also has some interesting articles written by some of the more famous names in the audio world.

Perhaps a better question than "who owns who" is "who BUILDS what?"  For example, there is a large electronics firm based in Taiwan called Eastech who operate manufacturing facilites in Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore and China.  They build the electronics and speakers for a long list of companies including: J.C. Penny, Universum, Philips, Sanyo, Sony, Kenwood, Panasonic, Sharp, Denon, Onkyo, Pro-scan, Thomson, Sansui, Hitachi,  Studer/Revox, Sherbourn, Pioneer,  Dual, Schneider, Logitech, Mission, Goodmans and Bush, Jamo, JBL, Fisher, Harman/Kardon, Infinity, Mark Levinson, Magnavox, Outlaw Audio, Atlantic Technology, NAD, Emerson, and RCA.  There are probably others.  This is not to impune the quality of those brands, just to point out that often many different brands actually originate from the same factories.

Thanks DYohn this is close to what im looking for, I'll start with that and add on my findings, thats an interesting this there with Eastech, Its strange to see higher quality equipment like Denon, Onkyo and JBL made on the same line as Dual and Sharp

Keep in mind that the engineering put into those products makes quite a large impact on the quality and performance of the product.  There aren't that many build houses out there.  We used to use several different build houses, but are unusual that we now have our own.  But even still, as a manufacturer you go to one of these build houses and specify exactly what you want.  They build it for you in large quantities to your specifications whether it is a good design or not.

Actually most of them don't use the same parts.  They might share a couple parts to save on tooling costs.  But most of them are completely different.

Yeah, very rarely do manufacturers use the same tooling for each one. (Exceptions are occasionally made.) There is a Leer facility here that my mom works at and you'd be amazed at the different names that go through there and the huge difference in material qualities. (Not disclosing anything specific so it doesn't somehow get associated in some stupid way.) But as said above, design decides the product, not location. The failure rate of the product is the only thing associated with the manufacturer of the product, the performance is engineering.

Absolutely. the design means as much if not more as the components used.  Like I said I was not trying to impune the quality of any of those brands and in fact recommend many of them.  I was simply pointing out that most electronics you can purchase today actually originate in the far east regardless of brand name, and that many of them are manufactured by the exact same folks on the exact same assembly lines side-by-side.

I also know that some gear actually manufactured in the far east gets labeled "Assembled in the USA" when all that means is the case was screwed together and a brand name slapped on in a warehouse in Rancho Dominguez....

Sorry, I probably shouln't have "quoted" you since it might sound like I was trying to argue yoru points.  I was actually trying to add to what you were saying, that was all.

There are a few U.S. based build houses, but not many.  It's just not economical to do it here unfortunately.  Eminence is one of the most successful, but that's just because they have been doing it so long.
