Advice needed on cut through box

So iv'e decided to do a cut-through box on my 2000 dodge ram 1500 and found a shop experienced with these to do it.I would like to get some opinions on how to maximize spl and since the cutout will be relativaly small to insure structural integrity should I go with my 2 orion h2's angled toward each other in a ported box towards the cab? face them forward towards the cab and make a larger cut out? or get rid of the orions and go with a single 15"? And what should I expect to pay for the cutout and box?

i would suggest  to cut out about 1foot tall and 2foot wide for 2-12s. anything smaller is kinda like tuning a port(pain in arse). kinda V them toward the cab. fully carpeted, installed(amps), and completely trimmed out you could be out $500 - $800 (depending on the amp rack and carpet material), but im in arkansas so labor is cheap.

Thanks for the reply SS! So are you suggesting a sealed box? I was thinking ported to increase SPL. I agree with the V shape but I would like to find out an exact angle to avoid cancellation.

First, regardless of what anyone says you ruin your bed. Second, you can get a bed kit (or build) for the bed and have a shell. Third, when you change your mind or want to upgrade you aren't screwed into doing more body work. Fourth, you are spending money on getting the bed cut. Why not spend a little more and get the shell, if you don't like it or change your mind you can always sell it.

You also ruin any resale value your vehicle may have. And even if its done as good as possible you are risking structral intgerety. That said, I have done it myself and wouldn't tell you not to. Those are just reasons why you shouldn't.

Thanks for the advice everybody.This is my daily driver and I need the open bed space that's why I can't go with the topper shell. However, you talked me out of the cut through. I remember seeing a shell one quarter the length of the bed  that ran flush to the roof. Has anyone seen one of these or have any manufature information on these?

I know exactly what your talking about and have seen them but have no idea about manufacturers. I do think that would be a much better idea than hackin up your truck though. Then, depending on the size of your box, you may have some space leftover for dry storage outside the cab, and still have your bed.

if you cant find one you could make one, and as long as you had a painter that new what the hell he was doing you could get it painted to match the truck. I havent actually seen the quarter toppers ( I think thats what they were called) for sale for a long time. Last time I saw one was about 7 years ago when I was in high school and one of the guys in my school had one on his truck.
