i have actually heard from a friend that the kenwood excellon amps clip like crazy. why i dunno. but i was informed this AFTER i bought my new kenwood amp, KAC-8101D. and my friend also told me that his friend had one of these hooked up to a focal sub wired in 2 ohm mono. and it fried the voice coils and literally melted them. any rumours or ideas on these amps?

Clipping is almost always (always?) caused by careless people and/or behavior, not faulty equipment.

I would bet money that your friend doesn't know how to correctly set his gain and/or likes to show off and got careless with the volume knob.

He also apparently doesn't know what massive distortion and clipping sound like.

Im shure if there was a clipping problem such as that, kenwood would have alot of pissed off customers.  Aparently your friend is the only guy with the problem. Almost guaranteed that the gain was cranked, or the user does not know what clipping subs sounds like.

I have a Kenwood Excelon KAC-811D amp and love it. It's a great amp and from a few Kenwood owners I have talked to Excelon branch amps are good. It won't clip if you set it up right. Goodluck!
Peace

It's possible that he is over powering his sub and causing distortion, which he he assuming is coming from the amplifier.

i know they're awesome, right now i have my subs wired in para/para to get a 1.5 ohm load, the amp doesnt heat up at all and they just pound...(drools like homer simpson) i was kinda disapointed that the stereo place where i got the amp from didnt have the 8151D model. thats the one with the external bass control. but instead i have to control it from my HU. oh well. its all good none the less.
is it really possible to over power a focal sub with this amp!? i mean c'mon they can take a beating, the subs i mean.
