I would really appreciate a car audio wiring diagram or even simply just a list with information on which colour wire is what. (ie which is the ground wire, which is the ignition wire etc.)

For a Nissan Pulsar Plus '99 stock audio system there are the following wires:

orange
grey
black
red
pink
yellow
yellow/black
white
WHITE/ black
blue
blue/black
green
GREEN/ black
even just info on where a person is supposed to find out these things would be greatly appreciated (can i call the manufacturers or something?)
thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this.

If you're trying to hook up a new stereo, just go to the store and pick up a harness from metra or scosche.  Then you can match color to color on that harness to your new stereo harness and plug it in.

Otherwise, try this: www.installdr.com.

My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
