So... this is probably a pretty stupid question, but all I've ever wired up before are simple, Single Voice Coil Subs... so here it goes.... My car was stolen recently and so I upgraded my stuff and bought two Infinity Reference Series 1042W Dual Voice Coil Subs from Crutchfield. So, now I need to buy an Amp for REALLY cheap, and I've been looking at a Sony XPLOD 1200W Amp (Now dont give me crap about it guys, its cheap) 2/1 Channel amp. So... I saw this pic on Infinity's web site: are the subs getting peak or RMS? -- posted image.

So here's the question finally: In this configuration are both subs getting the 1200 Peak and 500 RMS? Or is it split exactly in half, or what? Secondly, do the wires go from Sub to Sub or do they simply connect to the same terminal on the Amp? Man, I need help. Anything that you guys can give me would be awesome.

they'd be getting 500w total between the 2 of them, so probably 250w RMS to teach speaker. sony markets there amps with a peak rating (1200w Peak.... whatever RMS)

Peak and RMS are different you realize... RMS is how much the amp will put out constantly... Peak is the amount of power it will put out at certain points of music, forexample that have alot of bass..

Right. I do understand that. I was asking more, is each sub getting 500W RMS? But, like you said, probably 250 RMS each. So does that mean Peak is only going to be 600W on each sub? Also, what about the wiring? Do the wires go (+) Amp to sub to sub to sub to amp (-)? Or are the subs on individual wires that just connect to the same terminal on the amp?

The power handling capability of a woofer doesn't change due to amplifier output. But disregard "peak" anyway because it is a non-factor number.

Wiring wizard over to the left. It's called Woofer Wiring. A picture is worth more than a thousand words when it comes to describing wiring!

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
