I found this disturbing article online today and it affects everyone reading this post...

A St Louis Alderman by the name of Craig Schmid has proposed an ordinance which has already passed.  Which prohibits the following....

Any speaker larger than 12" in diameter

More than one 10" speaker

Any amplifier with output greater that 300 watts

More than 10 Speakers in your car

Any installation of speakers or amplifiers in non-stock boxes or enclosures.

Shops could be fined for installing these items, and if you are found in violation, your car will be IMPOUNDED and you will be subject to fines, storage, etc.  This is even if they do not hear you.

This measure has passed the board of aldermen in St Louis and becomes LAW IMMEDIATELY if the mayor signs off on it, as it was proposed as an emergency clause.

I am pasting a link to a newspaper article below...

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/stlouiscitycounty/...

Here is a link to email the mayor of St Louis Francis G Slay....

http://stlcin.missouri.org/index/contactelect.cfm?ID=1

Here is a link to email Alderman Craig Schmid  I would not recommend hatemail.  Keep it civil, and mention legal action, civil rights, and the ACLU....

http://stlcin.missouri.org/index/contactald.cfm?Ward=20

If you are from the St Louis area, I would highly reccomend contacting the ACLU.  I am from Oklahoma and this does not violate my civil rights (yet), but I am sure it does yours.

The biggest irony to me is that many factory audio systems violate this ordinance.  This law would cripple local shops and set precedents that could effect the entire industry.

And last but not least...If you live in these areas, or anywhere else for that matter, and are cruising through residential areas at 3 AM for Christ's sake turn your stereo down a bit.  Don't give morons like Craig Schmid the opportunity to ruin everyone's fun.

The alderman pulled the bill last Friday to rework it. He got plenty of e-mails concerning the bill of his and replied with a form letter. Who knows it may pop up again later this year. As of now the old noise ordinance is in effect just not this new one Schmid was trying to pass into law.

you know i'm am so tired of mfs minding someone elses bizz. just last week i was having a b-day party, in the middle of the day(Saturday) I had my system going in my ( I live in the country) front yard. ( kinda loud, but no way near full blast) and this guy from down the road comes up and ask me to turn it off. I said I'll turn it down, but not off. He wants to argue with me. I lost it. I said " look mf you run your loud a** chain saw and skill saws and hammering all day long every day. I do this once a year so go f your self. "  Well I didn't make a new freind that day, but I stood up for my rights. He called the cops. They showed up and said I was with in my rights on my land. It was not before 7:00 am or after 10:00 pm. ( local noise code). So when he fires up the saws at 6:00am I call the cops. and he gets pissed. I love it. Great to hear that the alderman has pulled the bill.  Hopefully that will be the last of it.
It is amazing what happens if you give a little bit of power to the wrong people.  Then next thing you know, the government will be listening in on our phone conversations....oh...wait a minute....

Your rights end where they impinge on someone else's rights.  If you use your system in a way that disturbs other people, then you deserve to get ticketed.  There is a proposed ordinance in CA to allow cops to confiscate the cars of people who violate the noise ordinance three times.  I for one hope it passes... lots of good cars would then be available on the auction block!

Turn it down and keep it down around other people or in residential neighborhoods and laws like this would not even be considered.

The guys that have to be told to turn their stuff down are on the same intellectual level as the people suing Apple in this little article.
I've said it before, and it bears repeating... Face it people, we live in a nation of idiots, and this is why we have the village chiefs (the government) trying to raise them. Translation: Noise ordinances, seat belt laws, speed limits, "homeland security"... the list goes on and on... They have to "look out for our best interests", because nobody knows how to take responsibility for their own actions any more...
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

You see some people always reuin it for others. That apple things is a load of crap Its all about money those people want some of apple millions.
And for the other thing. That alderman wants the same thing. We all know he could care less about the people being affected here. He wants to bring in revenue thats it. impounding cars plus fees revenue. Massive tickets Revenue. Shutting down some businesses but boosting others. revenue. he is an official there nothing new thats all hes about.
Yes everything is about money. cars we drive, things we buy etc. But when officials want to pass a law such as that a joke because they act like they car for the affected but not everyone is an idiot they know all he is doing is trying to look good. show something possitive. and let me tell you showing earned money is the most possitve thing an official can show. becuase that is what they are based on. Including the Gov;t from the top to the bottom.

The downside is that alot of stock vehicles would be able to be confiscated because they break the noise ordinance in "oem trim", noise ordinances apply to exhaust as well as audio equipment. It is good for the people going to the auction but at the same time they could just take the vehicle back in a week.
Just think of all of the harleys/bikes, diesels, SRT4s, WRXs, and other misc cars that would end up on the auction block.

The one problem is the alderman is going to rework the bill so it probably will be later reintroduced and voted on again later this year. If it passes with the aldermen then it goes to the Mayor for his signature and then it will be put into effect. Hopefully it won't fly under the radar when that happens.

Right now there are sound ordinances in effect here in Saint Louis. If they were enforcing these then they would be taking in more money but if they aren't enforced they can't take in the money.

As it was worded before the bill was pulled I don't think it was right to be able to fine a business because of something they sell that COULD be used in a manner that is illegal. All these things have volume controls. We just need to teach the few idiots out there how to use them.
