current draw of an amp?

hi, i've seen on an other forum when they say that an amp that put 500 wrms at 4 ohm will draw the same ampere as an amp that put 500wrms at 2 ohm, now i'm a bit confusing about current draw of an amp. how is this for real? let say you have an mono amp that is 150 amperes, and at 4ohm it is 500 wrms at 2ohm it is 1000wrms and at 1ohm it is 1500wrms. is it true that at any ohm the amp will draw the same current from the alternator? because for me is that at 1 ohm the amp will draw the most current, true or not? it's bit confusing.Shaking The Neighborhood

Re-read your first line.  An amp that puts out 500 watts will draw about the same current as another amp that produces 500 watts (assuming they are the same kind of amp.)  It does not matter what the load is, 500 watts is 500 watts.  If the output goes up, then of course the current draw will go up to supply the power.  But if the output is equal in amp A at 4-ohms as it is in amp B at 2-ohms, the current draw between the two will be about the same.Support the12volt.com
