little bit of static between songs

HI all, Just got my car back from a pro installer. Replaced stock Bose system with Eclipse CD8455, JL 1000/1 amp, 12w7, JL 300/4 with Focal 165w components for the front doors(install guy told me that the cross overs didn't need to be installed because the amp already has it, and he used stock Bose tweeters because one of the Utopia's was broken, and he left the rear door speakers in and hooked them up to the HU) Really clean install except you can hear a little bit of white noise/static between songs(IE when the unit is on but no music) coming from all the door speakers and the 300 amp, and the bass is not nearly as loud as my old car(only 1000/1 and 12w7). I was kind of hoping for better results for the $348 install and all these name brand equipment. I'm guessing the humming/whinny amp has something to do with the static(engine is off), and the cross overs and gain has to be adj for the 12w7. Any comments and suggestions from all CA Masters would be greatly appreciated. sincerely alex

Go back to the shop and tell them to install the crossovers.  The crossover on the amplifier is NOT the same thing.  For one thing, the passive crossover that came with the component set does more than just provide a specific slope at a certain frequency.  It includes equalization, level setting, impedance matching, etc. to get the speakers to sound right in their intended  mounting location.  Plus the crossovers on the amplifiers aren't very accurate.  Many times the potentiometer used to set them won't be linear, therefore frequency selection won't be very precise.  It is NOT a replacement for a factory provided crossover.

You should also mention the noise problem to them when you have them install the crossovers.  There shouldn't be any noise if that system is properly installed.  The output difference with the sub could be due to the change in vehicle.  Some vehicles lend themselves to bass better than others.  Throw that sub in the trunk of a Mercedes with the gas tank mounted along the back seat and you won't get nearly as much bass as a hatchback.
