I was installing a two piece head unit (a dvd/cd player and a lcd flip out monitor). I didnt protect hte ignition/12v/ground wires while installing so the copper was showing. Both units were working until either the ignition/12v came in contact with the ground wire. It blew a fuse underneath my steering wheel not on the new units. I replaced it, but now the cd/dvd player wont work....the lcd monitor still does. So i took it out. Connected a 12v battery charger to the dvd/cd player and it turned right on...
Anyone know how i can fix this problem?

I am willing to bet they are not.  Did you check all fuses in all fuse bozes, including under the hood, and did you meter them to make sure they are good?

As far as connecting the IGN and Batt leads together, the down side is the radio will not turn off with the key and it may drain your battery.
