horn honk on lock

I have two Ford Fusions that have the factory keyless entry systems.  Both of these will honk the horn to signify that the systems are "armed".  Because I park the cars in front of my house and get in and out of them several times a day, I would really like to quiet this down a bit.

Is there an easy way to do this?  And, secondly (of course, there is ALWAYS a second part) can anyone help with finding the appropriate wiring to play with?  (I have 1 2007 SE and 1 2008 SEL)

Hey Chris,

Thanks for the post...the owner's manual is a bust...no info there.  I am a member of at least two different Fusion boards that have some great posters, but not too many ppl that are "tech" savvy.  No help for me tehre I'm afraid.

If I can identify the wiring, I could disable it, or hook it to another (perhaps quieter) sound source, but I don't have any wiring info for either of the cars...(I don't think there would be any significant changes between the two years) that would let me play with this.

I don't want to jsut disconnect the horn as it "double beeps" if you leave a door, the hood or the trunk ajar, letting you know that the car isn't "secure" even if it is locked (as secure as it can be w/ the factory installed anti-theft measures).

I'll keep looking though...

No...not that I'm aware of at any rate...I have reviewed everything that was given to me with both cars, reviewed the motocraft site as well as the blue oval forums (I can't go to sites that are listed as forums from work...at least, not yet...gotta get http tunneling running first...websense monitors and blocks anything they think I might be getting into trouble with..LOL) but no answer yet. 

My thought was to intercept the signal before it gets to the horn relay and just use some other sound device to "announce" the lock event.  I just need more info than I can put my hands on right now...

You are right, it will lock w/o the honk on one press...but one of the reasons you want to hit it a second time and hear the horn is the fact that it will double beep if there is an area that is not secure.  Several times I almost walked away from the car when the trunk was released. 

It is not obvious that the trunk is not locked, so it is VERY EASY to walk away from the car and leave it unlocked (if the trunk is open, the car is open).  By pressing the lock twice, you either get one honk if all is secure, or two honks if there is an issue.

My quest is simply to quiet the "alert" down a bit.  The full volume horn honking late at night in the neighborhood makes for some mad neighbors...
