does anyone know how to disconnect the passive alarm system on a 1998 Ford Taurus SE?

It would REALLY help if we knew what kind of alarm it was.

thought it was a factory installed alarm. How would I find out?

How about the fcc id# on your remote? Or if you could possibly look inside the dash ans see if theres a brand name on the alarm brain. Theres no such factory alarm that will arm itself. A factory immobilizer will arm itself, but not a factory alarm. Another hint, if it has a siren its not a factory alarm. Factory alarms will honk the horn.

Am I better off just buying a few spare remotes or is it easier to disconnect the system?
