I had a Viper 5101 remote start installed in my truck and I'm receiving trouble codes.  My check engine light went on and my door driver side door alarm sounds when my truck is running,  This happens both when the truck is started manually and when started with the command start remote.  It has also disabled the backlight when shifting from D/N/R/1/2.  The backlight will illuminate when the key is turned once, but not twice.  Every other feature of the command start works however my check engine light remains on and the alarm continues to sound when I open my door.  I brought it to the dealer and they could not trace these codes.  I believe the right module was installed and brought it back to the dealer to have it looked at again.  They say it must be a short in the truck and Dodge says it must be the command start causing this.....confused.  I asked the dealer not to arm the door locks on the remote, as I already have this feature on my key fob from the factory.  The second generation module was installed...still unsure what is causing this, but the truck doesn't like something.....any ideas?

It's NOT the truck that is causing the problem.

Have that thing yanked out of your truck and watch your problem go away!

Is the shop that did the install a reputable one? For them to point their fingers at the truck is not acceptable. (thats the dealers job)

Thank you......I'll have to get the wiring diagram and have someone else pull it out, as it was installed in another Province.

One of the installers at the shop said he unhooked the command start and the problem was still there.  He of course didn't do a complete uninstall, so not sure how accurate this info was.

the code may have to be cleared. once everything is completely uninstalled and the code is cleared, and the light still comes on....then it is a truck problem. and the truck dealership should be able to see what is causing the code once they plug into it no problem.

I just found out that the alarm goes off only if Ihave my seatbelt off.  When I disabled the seatbelt alarm sensor my check engine light went off and then went back on after the alarm sounded again.  This seemed to work only until the engine was turned off, Ithink after this ir reset itself again.  The alarm will not sound if my seatbelt is on.
