I am attempting to install a viper 5301 and a xk06 on my 96 chevy caprice. i have full functionality on my door locks and trunk pop from my remote. i have four problems.
1. with my doors locked and alarm engaged i can unlock the door and step out of the car and the alarm (horn) does not go off. im assuming this is because i have not hooked up the door trigger wires properly. i hooked one wire(+) up to the positive wire lead on the driver's side floor lamp. i hooked up the wire labeled door trigger (-) to the ground lead on the driver's side floor lamp. this can't be right since my alarm is not triggered by opening the door. where do i hook up these wires, or do i only need to use one wire?
2. i would like to hook up the optional rear defogger but i am not sure where to hook up this wire. would it be where the actual swith to the defogger is? do i need a relay?
3. this one is not that big of a deal, but i would like to hook up the domelight supervision wire. no clue where to hook it up.
4. i saved the best for last. i am installing an xk06 to bypass the immobilizer in order to start the car remotely. im assuming my car is using passkey1 since my key has the resistor in it. im using the d2d harness to eliminate 3 out of the 10 connections on the 10-pin harness (Ground when running, 12v source, and chassis ground). my main dilema is where to hook up the resistor code input and output wires (wire color and location). the wiring diagram says the connections are behind the ignition switch, but i see no way of getting to them. also there is a data wire from the xk06 that i don't know where to hook up, and also a 12v output wire from the xk06. i posted a link at the bottom of my post to the diagram for the xk06. is this the right diagram for my car?
i hope this is not too much for one post. i've been racking my brain for 2 days trying to figure this out.

vehicle has vats and the 5301 is a remote start/keyless. not an alarm

ok i hooked up the blue wire from the xk06 to one white wire in the orange sleeve. im not sure which one is correct cuz they're both white. i hooked up the pink wire to the pink ignition wire. i hooked the black from the xk06 to the black wire from the ignition cylinder. i have the d2d harness hooked up for the rest of the connections. then i first tried to select proper passlock mode, but this didn't go like the manual said. so after trying that a few times with no luck, i moved on to programming which also didn't work after several attempts, and i still can't get the car to start.
what am i doing wrong? are my wires hooked up right?

robertsc.... my xk06 is using pkg7 firmware. i noticed the diagram you suggested is for plxr firmware. im assuming this makes a difference. do i need to flash to plxr or can i get it to work the way it is if i change the wiring?

you will have to meter the wire to determine which wire is not ground

and yes it need to be flashed to that firmware

personally I think a relay and a resistor would be cheaper and easier than an xk mod.

Either a resistor and relay or solder a resistor in line permanently and be done with it. I also had a 1996 Caprice not too long ago and had zero problems doing just that. In fact, if anyone has had any experience with VATS, over time the cylinder quits reading the pellet on the key anyway so I just did away with the whole thing. As far as door trigger and dome supervision, there are two under-dash lights. Use one for door trigger, and one for dome supervision. Be sure to use a relay for dome supervision. The 5301 is a low-current output to drive a relay only. That's exactly what I did on mine and everything worked wonderfully.

soldering a resistor in line permanently sounds like a good idea. can u tell me which wire and location. i tried to do it on one of the white wires in the orange sleeve coming from the cylinder, but i got a passlock fault. unless i didn't wait long enough after doing this for the bcm to reset.
