2005 honda accord remote start options

I'm looking for a basic remote starter for an 05 honda accord. The car is my girlfriend's mom's so I'm probably going to have it installed somewhere because I don't have the time to get it done in under a week. I've been looking at best buy a little, but they only seem to have some viper modules that start at $300. Does anyone have any good recommendations for units or shops in chicago or the western suburbs that would be good? I've done a few stereo installs myself and a remote starter on a 99 grand am, but I'm not a professional by any means. Thanks for any help.

You have done a GM vehicle.... try this Honda, you'll be done in an afternoon.

really? I would have thought the honda would be more complicated just because it's an import. That's good to know. So any recommendations on basic reliable units to look at?

You are going to want to get a unit that does keyless entry too. The remote built into the key does not work once the car is on (after remote starting). Look into getting an interface for the doorlocks/OEM alarm.   You will also need one for the transponder key. A few years back I would always use the HODL2 and PKH3 modules the 03-07 Accord which make the install very easy. Those modules may have been replaced by different versions, so do some searching. As far as which remote start, I prefer Compustar. There are a lot of good brands, and a lot of junk ones too. Don't go too cheap.

Jworm is correct about the factory fob not working when running. So you will WANT to get a keyless/rs system. You don't NEED to though if you don't mind unlocking the car with the key. The $300 price at Best Buy is with basic installation. So most of the labor is payed for. You will probably need a $80 pkall module for your stater disable and $30 labor to install it. Also if you have a factory alarm they will charge you $25 for fact alarm disarm. So in all you are looking around $450 range with tax if you have a factory alarm. Also they usually install units from outside the store as long as they are DEI stuff. So you could save some money there possibly by getting some older models. As far as install goes it is pretty much straight forward on the vehicle except the bypass. I think the honda bypasses are a little more difficult than GM's. So you are welcome to try it. But remember if you mess something up it is usually more cost to fix it than to have it done professionally from the start.

I disagree on the bypass. If you get a PKH3 ($15 on ebay) it is a really easy module to install. Some of the newer modules require more wires to hook up and they have actually made the install more complicated than need be.

The main reason I was looking to have it installed somewhere is because it's not my car and I really don't want to take the risk of screwing something up. So best buy is a good choice for installers too? I've never used them, but I got the impression you always have to buy all the extra modules and accessories from them at their higher prices so the free install never ends up being free. If i can buy the bypass myself and save some money that would definitely help.

you're going to need to install about 5-10 more cars to feel confident. I suggest taking it to a local shop or big chain retailer.Houston,TX

Who said they install stuff for free? Best Buy actually has (some) talented installers, but they have no room to grow. They can not do custom boxes/fiberglass and there really is no advertisement of their car department. The sales staff is a joke most of the time and IMO makes the installers look bad. Otherwise, a shop can do the work for you, but usually to get a good shop/installer you have to pay more. As for the bypass, I personally have to use the PKALL which sucks. Mostly because it takes me more time to figure out which harness and wires to use/programming then it actually takes me to install it. lol
