Just purchased a used car 2008 Nissan Altima.  An Avistart 4113 was installed by the prior owner but the dealer did not have a remote nor would they program it.   Not dealer installed can't warrenty it etc etc.

I was able to download the installation instructions and the proper connectors seem to be in place.  I was able to plug a 2 wire connector into the valet/program switch loacation and it seems to work as it should.

My question is do I need the original Avital remote for it to work or can I program my car remote to it?  I have an unused button (trunk remote) on my remote.  From reading the installation manual there are 4 channels that can be activated with the program switch, corresponding to 1, 2, 3, or 4 flashes of the LED.  Which spot would I program a new remote into?  I tried to bring up several of the channels and hold down my remote button but nothing happens and the flashing seems to just time out.  Same as if no remote was pressed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Stuart

Turn the ignition "ON"  (press the push to start button twice, without stepping on the brake pedal)

Press and release the programming pushbutton, then press and HOLD

Then press the button on the transmitter, and release.

Thats it.  turn the ignition off, the remote is programmed.

The other remote(s) will still be programmed to the system.  You would need to Zap them out to erase them if you wanted (not necessary).

The push to start button?  Do you mean the button on the remote that I want to program?

Thank you,

Stuart

No, the Ignition switch (bushbutton) to start the car.
