relay interrupt for parking lights

Hi,

I need to know how to wire a relay for my parking lights from my remote start.  I have a 2010 ford focus and when you unplug the harness from the light switch the parking lights get a constant 12volts.  When the light switch is connected the parking light wire then turns to ground.  I fryed the circuit in the light switch when I hooked the remote start wire for parking lights to the parking light wire from the car.  This caused 12volts to be sent at the same time from the remote start when triggered to the wire from the car for the parking lights that was already getting 12volts because it was unplugged from the light switch.  Hope that makes sense.  I'm worried that the same thing might happen again.  Say for example you have the parking lights on and the remote start triggers sending another 12volts to the parking lights already getting 12volts. I read on a tech sheet that a relay interrupt should be used for the parking lights.  Can any one tell me how the relay should be wired and if a fuse should be used and where the fuse should be located.  Thanks.

So just to make sure the remote start parking light trigger which is positive will be hooked up to both 86 and 87?  Also what exactly does the diode do?

None of the wire colors mentioned in the diagram match my car.  That's been my problem.  All the wiring diagrams from everywhere I've gotten them don't match my car.  I did some more probing though at the switch and found a negative wire for the lights.  The parking lights go to ground when turned on.  I have a jumper on the remote start that can switch the positive parking light wire to negative.  If I switch the jumper on the remote start and hook it up to the negative wire for the lights should I be safe and good to go?  Thanks for your time here.
