does aanyone know if the viper 4x02 brain is really a 5501 brain .my 5501 brain sounds like one of the relays is buzzing and i was hoping to find a replacement brain that i could just plug and swap .will my remotes work with the new brain?

Not sure if you have already fixed this issue, but yes the 4x02 brain is the same one used from the 5501 series.
It's actually a universal DEI brain that works with a few of the Viper/Clifford/Python systems. What makes it 1 way or 2 way (LCD or LED) is the remote and antenna combination. Otherwise, the wiring is the same and the remotes you currently use will also work with the new unit. You will need to program them in to the new brain though. If you have access to the 5501 install manual, it's fairly simple to do.
Hope that helps (if you haven't already figured it out. Good Luck.
