Hello, I am new to your forum so please be kind, I appreciate your responses.

I am working on a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500, Installing an aftermarket (Cheap Chinese) Security system.

I know that this dodge has reversing polarity actuators, a 5 wire reversing polarity switch at both doors, and that there is no factory keyless entry.  I have confirmed that the alarm unit is generating a negative lock and negative unlock when activated and these leads are activating the coresponding relay.  I installed 2 SPDT relays in the doors between the switch and the actuators,  I got power from the center (Hot) lead going into the door switch. Door lock switches operate perfectly at both doors.

MY PROBLEM:  When using the remote, somehow it shorts blowing the factory fuse.  Here's what I think.  When activating the relays, either lock or unlock, one leg is separated from the Dswitch and power is applied to that leg of the actuator, the other leg is left connected to the Dswitch and is at ground.  What I first did was install the relays just in the driver door, but the passenger side worked but very slow and appeared to be fighting.  So, I built another exect relay setup and installed it in the passenger door. Yet now the blowing fuse issue.

Question, do I need to install more relays to break the ground leg from the Dswitch and go directly to chsis ground?  IE 4 SPDT relays in each door?

Thanks for any help

are these factory door locks you are trying to hook up to? no matter what you should only need more than 2 relays total. your problem might be that you are using more relays than what you need.
my information shows that there are two wires in the drivers kick panel that control the locks. pink/purple and ORANGE / purple, and they are supposed to be reverse polarity as opposed to 5 wire. but if you are blowing fuses then you are probably dealing with a 5 wire system. tech sheets have a tendency to mix the two lock system types up.
the difference between reverse polarity and 5 wire is that the wires rest at ground on a 5 wire system even though they are both technically reverse polarity.
try taking out all of those relays and use only two relays at those wires i gave you. test those wires to make sure if they rest at ground or not. if they dont rest at ground then they are reverse polarity like the data sheet says.

Ok thanks I will try the under dash wires again.

The locking system in place is factory.

Yesterday I tried what you are suggesting, with the pink/purple and ORANGE / purple and I cut both of those wires and one side of both wires became open and the other side went to ground. I found these wires underneath the driver side dash at a connection block between the e brake and the brake. The pink/purple and ORANGE / purple are the same color wires that come from the actuators.

Do you thing Dodge used some relays between the switches and the actuators?

Either way I will go back to it and test out your suggestion and get back soon.... Thanks

ok so did you test those wires that you cut in half to make sure they were in fact the lock and unlock wires? if the wires you found are the lock wires then you need to wire them as a 5 wire lock system. when done correctly the relays will cut the factory lock wire and send a positive pulse to the lock motors while the other wire stays grounded thus making the motor move one way or the other. if you do this and still blow fuses then you have the relays sending the positive pulse to the wrong side of the wires you cut.

Yes, they were the lock/unlock wires, I found out that Orieilly sold me the wrong relays, the 87s were tied together and didn't make/break..  I will have to order some relays and get back to this as soon as they arrive.. Thanks for your help, I wouldnt have noticed the goof without your help.  I will repost a result when I get it done.

Sounds like they sold you a dual relay socket which could be used, just has to be wired simular to a DEI 451M.
