light flash output, when on?

I have a viper 600 esp. It has a "light flash output" wire than can be either +12v or ground (jumper selectable). HOWEVER, the dang manual doesn't say under what conditions this output is active. Is it active: 1) when the alarm is going off ? 2) when arming and disarming ? Also, the dome-light supervision relay, what conditions is it active? (alarm going off? arm/disarm? ) thanks- brad

brad i thionk you answered your own questions. i dont us ethat brand, but mosy alarms are pretty much the same. the light flash should do just waht you said above. you most likely will need it to be a positive hook up. as far as the dome light flash, you might need a neg. depends on the car you have. it will turn on the dome light upon disarm and may even flash when triggered.Good Luck

Haha, no I didnt answer my own questions! I *could* hook up a multimeter to each of the outputs and figure out what conditions (arm/disarm AND alarm-going-off) triggers the output. However, I was hoping that someone would know off hand so I could plan out my design before I tear into the dash. So the questions: 1) does the 'light flash output' become active when the alarm brain is arming and disarming 2) does the 'light flash output' become active when the alarm is going off (ie siren is wailing) 3) does the 'dome light relay' become active when the alarm brain is arming and disarming 4) does the 'dome light relay' become active when the alarm is going off (ie siren is wailing) FYI- I'm trying to hookup: a) my parking lights to flash when arm/disarm and alarm going off b) my horn to honk when alarm going off IF the two output (light flash and dome light relay) behave identical then I won't be able to do what I want easily. I figured I could use the parking light flash to provide the pulses (so the horn and light flash) and then use the dome-light-relay to select if only the lights should flash OR if the horn honks and the lights flash. I know I can do this by using the siren output and an electronic flasher, but it would be cleaner if I can use the alarms light-flash-output to get a pulsating horn than using an external flasher. brad

the answer to 1-2 are yes on most alarms. is it a fused wire?? if so then it should work that way. 3-4 on the alarms that i use do flash on and off with both arm and disarm. after disarm the dome light will stay on for 30-60 seconds. a) my parking lights to flash when arm/disarm and alarm going off it should be that way already. just hook the output wire to your parking light wire. make sure there is a fuse in-line. also make sure the output is a positive 12 volts b) my horn to honk when alarm going off if you use the siren output, the horn will honk everytime the siren makes noise. however you may need a relay so you dont overload the output. i have seen car with the horn hooked up (hell of a lot of noise)and the transmitter didn't seem to work as good when standing in front of the car. it might have been the different waves (sound and radio) bouncing off each other. before you hook up the horn, double check the wire. most cars have a negwire inside the car and a positive outside the car. make sure you dont cross the wires and short anything out....... make sure you dont cross the wires and short anything out.......Good Luck
