Hi all...

Kinda stumped here...I have installed quite a few alarms, but this problem kinda has me...

To access the programming mode on the Hornet 554T, the alarm must see 12V on the ignition input wire.  The manual states that the "Large Gauge Pink Wire" must be connected to the ignition circuit.  However, I have a manual tranny and did not install remote start.  OK, I say...I`ll just directly provide the Ignition input (Pin 4, Yellow, Remote Start ribbon harness) with 12V from the column.  Reasoning is, contact 30 on the relay is the "Large Gauge Pink Wire", and contact 87a is the ignition input wire to alarm from the Satellite relay pack.  So, the alarm sees 12V whenever the Large Gauge Pink wire sees 12V until of course the remote start is activated and the contact goes to 87 (12V constant Large Gauge).

So, in short, when I try to put the alarm in programming mode, it doesnt work.  Btw, I have triple checked my door pin (-), and constant / ground.  The alarm works perfectly otherwise, all sensors / triggers work as expected.  And I have researched this topic on the forums, and saw the answer I expected "Connect yellow wire to ignition".  Yet, it doen`t seem to work... grrr

Malfunctiong brain?  Just wanted to have another set of eyes before I replace it.  Thanks All!

Just reconnect the relay harness and hook the pink wire up, if you don't have any of the other wires for the remote start the alarm won't power it up.

Actually, I have done that as well.  So far, I have been unable to get the alarm to reset or go into programming mode.  The only reason I just used the yellow input (pin 4, remote start harness) is because it is connected directly to the pink wire via the relay.  The relay rests with a connection between the pink (output) wire and the yellow ignition input wire.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Or does everyone hook in the entire (bulky) relay pack just to hook up the pink wire?  Just a thought...and of course DEI refuses to help at all since the 554T is not a DIY alarm.  :P  Thanks for any help on this...

I found the problem!!  I figured I would post here so that others who may encounter the same issue can resolve it quickly. =)

When I install an alarm, if there are pins that are unused for a particular installation, I don`t just cut the wires -- I remove the pin from the harness itself.  Soo...The ribbon harness for the 554T remote start relay satellite pack contains 5 wires.  Since I was not installing remote start -- AND I did not notice that the 12v ignition sense is on _this_ harness and not the main (pin 7 I believe) harness like it usually is, I removed a couple of wires for my application.  When I noticed that I needed pin 4 back (yellow 12v ignition sense), I went ahead and plugged it back into the harness _according_to_the_engraved_numbers_on_the_harness_itself... pin 4... or so I thought.

Turns out by trial and error that the PIN NUMBERS ARE BACKWARDS on the harness.  What is labeled pin 4 in tiny print on the plug is really pin 2 to the alarm.

Long story short, if you end up rewiring the harness for any reason, number pins backwards from what is engraved on the plug.

Gotta laugh sometimes. =)

Oh, also...fyi

No relay pack needed.  Matter of fact, you don`t even need to ground the safety switch (BLACK/ white trace).

Just switched 12v to yellow pin 4.
