Some units require you to learn a tach signal before it will attempt to remote start, and some require you to enter programming. Make sure your key is not in the ignition and turned to on when attempting to remote start. The code "ignition on" gave me that idea. is the unit designed for manual transmission vehicles? If it is, then you need to enter what is commonly referred to as "ready mode" before it will start. Like jeff said, give us the make and model of both your car and you RS and we can help better.
