Hello,

I have 1991 Cutlass Supreme 4-Door.  I am having two electrical problems that I cannot figure out.

1) Only the lock function is working on my power locks.  There are two lock switches (one on the drivers front door and passenger front door) and this happens no matter which switch you use, so I know its not a broken switch.  When I hit the lock button the power locks lock all 4 doors.  When I hit the unlock button nothing happens at all.  What does this mean, and how do I fix it?

2) The up, down and left functions of my power mirrors are working fine but the right does not.  I went to the junk yard and got another switch and the right button still doesn't work.  This is the case with both the drivers and passenger side of the car.  What does this mean, and how do I fix it?

The last thing I figured I would ask while I am here is where is the flasher located?  My directionals are kind of slow so I want to replace it.  Thanks!!!

Casey

1. Sure, the switches are probably good, but don't rule it out just yet.
First, find those light blue & black wires in the driver's kick panel, and test them. Does the black unlock wire test as it should? If it doesn't, it's a bad switch, or a break in the wire somewhere. If it DOES test as it should, then the next step is to make a few tests at the factory relay pack.
The factory lock relays are somewhere around the passenger underdash area....operate the lock function and listen; that'll help you find them. Once you get at the factory relays, the thick orange should be positive, the thick black should be ground, the thin blue and black should be the lock wires off the switch, and the gray and tan are the wires that go to the lock motors. Test all of those wires for proper operation.
2. If you've already replaced the switch, and both mirrors exhibit the same problem, I'd wager it's a broken wire. Examine the wires where they go into the door through the boot; that's a common failure point.
As for the turn signal flasher, just put on the signals and listen for it. It's likely to be around the fusebox area, which is easily accessed by pulling out the glove box.
