I hope this isn't too stupid of a question, but here goes.  I need to install a PKF bypass for a 2000 Ford F150 with the PATS securilock system.  I ordered the part, and while Im waiting for delivery I was reading through the installation instructions and have some questions.   First, it mentions that you should use a logic probe or an electronic test light.  Im familiar with the logic probe, but what makes an electronic test light different from a regular test light and why can't I use my DMM to probe these wires?  I don't think I have either tool and want to avoid buying one if I don't have too.  Second, the PKF is cut into the ignition wire for programming, but it mentions that for trucks only  to disconnect the PKF from the ignition wire when finished programming.  What is the purpose of this and why is it only for the trucks?

I would use a DEI 555F, which is much easier to install.

I do not see where it says to disconnect the PKF from the ignition wire when finished programming. Is this the 4.05 version or older ?

This is the Crimestopper model.  Here is the link to their instructions: http://www.crimestopper.com/techweb/InstructionBooks/Sen-Gmata-Acc/PKF%20Ver0405.pdf

The note is in the diagram for PICKUPS.  Any answers to my other question?  Thanks.

the poor english is a dead give away.

made by bommar for CS.

to answer the logic probe question, the probe is very high impedance and therefore should not draw (as much) current as a regular test light. certian cricuits will be damged by normal test light lights just by poking them. you have been warned.

good luck.

Not sure why you have to reconnect the IGN wires as the PKF modules we use do not require this to be done. It is essentially the same module except this IGN reconnect procedure. Email CS for their reasoning behind this.

Update:  I emailed CS technical support but have yet to recieve a reply.  Yesterday my PKF module was delivered, but now I have more questions.  It is CS override module PKF-II.  In the box was the module and a wire harness and thats it, no instructions, but I figure no problem I already have the instructions right.  Wrong, this PKF-II has an 8 wire harness and the colors don't even match the ones in the link above.  I tried the CS website and the PKF-II isn't even mentioned.  I am goint to call there 800 number as soon as they open and hope they will help.  I was pleased with CS products but this incident is changing my opinion fast.

Well I finally got my wire diagram but not without a fight.  When I called CS they wanted me to pay $4 for tech support because I am not an authorized dealer.  I tried to explain that I only need the wire diagram and that it didn't come in the box with my unit, they then told me that I still would have to pay or else deal with the person who sold it to me, basically telling me to F*** off.  Well after thinking about it for a while, I called the number again but chose a different option form the automated answering service, which was for help using "TECH WEB", their online tech support.  I had access to that because the guy I bought the PKF module from gave me his user ID to use, but the diagram they listed for PKF-II still didn't match, and was the same as the standard PKF.  So after someone picked up I told them that I couldn't find the right wire diagram on TECH WEB and the nice lady took my info and faxed it to me within 15 minutes.  Wow if only the tech support group would have been so cooperative.  The diagram is basically the same as the PKF, but now has the right wire colors.

On a side note:  I found a great website which answered the question about reconnecting the ignition wires, it is www.freetech.info.  They said that the reason to reconnect is that after running the signal through the PKF module the ignition wire may not have enough current to signal the ECM, and that you only need to cut the ignition wire for programing the PKF.
