Hello all
I just installed the Crimestopper CS-2015FM2 in my 2000 Camaro Z28. Everything works even the remote start, but my security light on my gauges stays on (a yellow light that spells out "security" just to the right of my speedo) when i do a remote start. I never disconnected the factory alarm, just disarmed it and never touched it again. What does this light mean exactly and should i "disconnect" the factory alarm, is this possible, and what, where, how do i do it. I know that when i have my doors open the factory LED in the middle of the dash comes on, but that happened pre-install of new alarm. Please help. Thanks.

What bypass method did you use to bypass the VATS on the car ? Make sure that you have the corect resistance on the resistor within 2 % or less.

I used the CS GMATA II - - it had a small screw on it to change the resistance and it is correct to the hundreths place (using a rather expensive meter).  The remote start works, but why would the security light come on??

Check to make sure that the trigger wire for the GMATAII has a solid ground on it as well. Other than this, the main reason for SECURITY LIGHT problems is the resistance value is outside of the range of operation.

If the resistor value it off more than 2% would the car still start during a remote start??  Because my car DOES have a successful remote start.  If it would start with the value being "off" what exactly is the purpose of the resistor chip in the key and the whole system.  I was under the impression that if the correct resistance was not there then the car would not be able to be started.  Would it only cause the Security light to come on?? And is it harmful for it to be on?  Thank you in advance, you have been very hempful thus far.

Some GM vehicles have a higher tolerance to a higher offset value of the resistor. I have encountered some vehicles that had a 1 % tolerance to the specified resistor and others have had a 5 % tolerance. When you purchase a resistor you can get the 5%, 10 % and 20 % tolerances . To answer your question, yes, if you are out even 2 % the system will still operate but you normally get the dash light error that you now have.
