I'm installing a Prestige APS-996 remote start on a 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood and can not get the remote start function to work properly.  The car does have the VATS system on it, but I have not got to that yet.  Ideally, if everything is hooked up right, the remote start should work with the key in the ignition cylinder, but it doesn't.

I have notice that the vehicle does have multiple coil pack......Is there something special that I need to do?  I've got the VATS piece of the install under control, but I can figure out why the remote start isn't working properly.

Please advise.........

93 Cadillac has VATS???
Test for your Tach wire, hook your multimeters red lead to the wire and the black lead to ground, set it to AC volts and start the car, should read from 1-6V and as you rev the engine the voltage should go up, The tach wire is White at the distributor or PURPLE / white at multi coil pack, you can get it from an injector too...

Yes, a 93 Cadillac with VATS.  My specs told me different, but when the car arrived........resistor on the key and the orange tube with 2 white wires leading down from the steering column.

I'm currently using a white wire off the distributor.  I will double check all of my connections, reprogram the tach wire and then try again.   If that doesn't work, I may try the PURPLE / white wire.

You need to bypass the VATS because most starters will not even try to start the car if it see that the key is in the ignition (well actually if the ignition is on).
First thing to do if you want to check the remote start install before installing the VATS, is to make sure you installed everything correctly.
Then start the car and try to make the RS take over the car, so you can pull the key out. if that works then you likely have things installed correctly, and you then just need to bypass the VATS
I would just bypass the VATS, its so easy to do.
